ICN Conference Edinbourgh

Prof. Dr. Dr. Hildebrand at the 24th ICN Annual Conference 2025, Edinburgh

Professor Dr. Dr. Doris Hildebrand, managing partner at EE&MC, participated as a Non-Governmental Advisor (NGA) to the German Federal Cartel Office in the 24th Annual Conference of the International Competition Network (ICN), which took place from 7 to 9 May 2025 in Edinburgh (Scotland). The conference was hosted by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

The conference was attended by representatives from over 90 competition authorities, international organisations, academia and leading economic and legal experts from around the world. The conference is considered the most important global forum for the exchange of information on current developments in competition law and competition economics with competition authorities.

This year's technical sessions focused on the role of competition in increasing productivity, innovation and growth, as well as the regulation of digital markets. The working groups discussed practical solutions to current challenges in competition supervision, including issues of artificial intelligence, the data economy and cross-border antitrust damages enforcement.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Doris Hildebrand contributed her economic expertise to the discussions on the quantitative assessment of distortions of competition.

At the closing event, Andreas Mundt, President of the Federal Cartel Office, handed over the chairmanship of the ICN Steering Group to Andrea Marván, President of the Mexican Competition Authority (COFECE).

In her role as NGA, Prof. Dr. Dr. Doris Hildebrand brings an economic perspective to multilateral policy-making for the assessment of market power in digital ecosystems. Her participation in the ICN meeting underscores the growing relevance of empirically based competition analyses in the international dialogue on antitrust.

The next annual meeting of the ICN will be hosted by the Philippine Competition Commission in Manila in 2026.
