Professor Hildebrand interviewed on ‘more economics-based approach’

Professor Doris Hildebrand was interviewed about the ‘more economics-based approach’ on the occasion of competition publication Concurrences’ 20th anniversary.

The economics-based approach was adopted in EU competition policy 20 years ago and marked an important change in how merger control and antitrust enforcement have been carried out since then.

In the interview, Professor Hildebrand explains that it was mainly ‘textbook’ economics that were applied. This does not reflect business reality, she explains.

Going forward, competition policy should apply more business economics so the economics-based approach takes the place it deserves, Professor Hildebrand argues.
